Oh the Iowa State Fair…

20 Aug

I have to admit, it’s been a few years since I’ve been able to make an appearance at the fair. I had always missed it because I would be thinking nothing other than packing up my bags and leaving for school. This year, however (and sadly), I had nowhere to pack my bags to as I have graduated from good ol’ St. Ben’s, making a little extra free time for a fair visit. Maybe the free tickets from work helped (thanks Marsh!) but I had persuaded Bry to come along with me for some fair fun! Bert, Bry, Garbs, and I ended up going to the Hairball concert…which is ALL Noel could ever talk about up in Minn (he was pretty jealous I got to go) and it turned out to be a pretty good time! It was absolutely pack, and the weather was perfect — not too hot and sticky like it usually is. Bry and I went on the Giant Slide ride too…and enjoyed it very much! The last time I went on that thing was when I was five, and I of course I loved every second of it! After the concert we also went on the Ferris Wheel — kinda rickety and scary but I love being so high up and seeing all of the fairgrounds. I couldn’t help but think of my mom saying how unsafe those rides are, “They tear those things down and put them up so fast again, they just can’t be safe!” But I figured Bry would protect me! haha

It’s time for the weekend! Yay! Tonight we’re going to Libby and Jessie’s apartment warming party and tomorrow I have a night out with the girlies from work! Should be a fun one!

Burg’s 2nd Annual Party Bus

20 Jul

There are no words to describe last weekend…most likely because I lost my voice!  Burg’s 2nd annual party bus was definately a success! It was great seeing my MN girls and the many friends we saw out in Uptown and the cities. I forgot I had never actually been downtown Minneapolis, and when we got off the bus I couldn’t stop looking up at the skyscrapers! haha I gotta get out of Iowa more often!

My voice loss is due to the first bar we went to, some country bar that was set up super cool and had a band playing there. We walked in and “Run to You” was being sung. I freaked out cause of course I recognized the song and I couldn’t remember who sang it until Sami said it was Lady Antebellum and then I was so excited because Lady Antebellum was there! I absolutely do not like that “Picture perfect memories” song by them…ugh it just makes me cringe thinking about it…but I like most of the other ones! Anyway we somehow made it to the front row and all I can say is we all screamed songs at the top of our lungs. Then someone told me that it wasn’t Lady Antebellum, it was just a cover band — oops! Oh well it was still a blast! and then the rest of the night was a blur!  In the morning we all had major headaches, Callie forgot her spanx, Sarah made sure her wedding ring was still on her finger, Noel and Sami got everyone to go to the Uptown diner, and I tried to find my shoes only realizing they were still on my feet from the night before! ha, I wish I could remember more…anyone else remember? Burg’s Party bus = success!

Before the party bus happenings– Saturday afternoon was full of trying on many wedding dresses, and after an hour Sarah found a couple that she really liked! It will be so hard to pick, they all looked so good on her and there are just so many to choose from! After wedding shopping, the girls and I went back to Alex’s for a nice afternoon of laying out at her pool and catching up. It seemed like we were only catching some rays for an hour, when it started to rain! Seriously this is by far my palest summer ever!

I used bleach when doing laundry earlier and my silver ring Bry and his fam gave me turned like a smokey gray!! How do I get it off? I don’t want it to be ruined forever!

Here are a few of the lovely dresses Sarah had been trying on!

Waiting for the Weekend!

15 Jul

Summer is flying by this year! It’s already half-way through July and there are still so many things I want to do before Bryan goes back to school (wah) and before this weather takes a turn for the worst and it’s no longer hot and sunny. For one thing, I have wanted to go to the zoo forever and no one wants to go with me! I have even tried to tempt friends for zoo brew (all you non-Des Moiners that’s when you can walk around and drink beer and look at the animals) but every Wednesday when we plan to go it always rains! Anyone who wants to go - let’s plan it!

I am excited for the weekend cause I am going to MN again to visit friends and party on Alissa’s birthday bus! Woo! AND all my MN girlies and I are going to help our friend Sarah pick out her WEDDING DRESS in the cities! I can’t believe this time has come! All of us girls voted and knew she’d be the one to get married first and pop out lots of little babies, but it’s probably going to be surreal when we are watching her try on dresses. Note to self: Bring extra tissues. We will miss Jamie and everyone else not able to come too, and we’ll send you pictures. :) This weekend is going to be craziness, I’m too excited!

Today at the office is like any other day, except all the interns get to go on a mini golf outing this afternoon! After big golfing with Bryan the other day (meaning me just trying to actually make contact with the ball) I now know I am just not cut-out for some things. Bry said I had horrible posture and I kept wanting to swing the club like a softball swing…Callie and Sami I just don’t know how you do it! I got blisters on my hand too :( I’m sure mini golfing in heels and work clothes won’t be the best situation either but at least we get to be outside for awhile!

I just started writing for the Examiner.com as the Des Moines Fashion Trends Examiner, and if you haven’t already please suscribe to my page and read my little articles! (I get paid on the number of suscribers and how many clicks I get each day!) Click here to suscribe!

Only one more day till MN,  YAY!

Oh Baby!

9 Jul

The 4th of July has always been my favorite holiday; the sunshine, friends, family, fireworks, and the spirit of the city seem like they are on a high. This 4th weekend was no exception, as I had a great afternoon laying out with Kristin and Alex on the 3rd, followed by a fun gathering and family reunion with Bryan and his fam. After the reunion we went out on the houseboat (called the “Hawk-Out”…go hawks!) and we were some of the lucky few able to boat around Saylorville. There has been so much rain in the last couple weeks, that the loading docks all had to be closed because of flooding…but the Hawk-Out and a few other houseboats are always parked on the lake so we didn’t have to worry!

Maria and John were also in town for the weekend, and I didn’t suspect anything unusual until Maria woke me from my mid-afternoon nap on the 5th by saying, “I want you to come downstairs to see something.” So I mumbled and grumbled my way downstairs, and when I arrived in the kitchen my mom and dad were standing there looking at me, and Maria was holding  a tray of cupcakes with blue and pink frosting, decorated on top with little plastic pacifiers! I was super excited, and I couldn’t stop saying “Oh my, what?!” I always wondered when she was going to get preggers but I didn’t know what their “plan” was. I also thought she was looking a little bigger lately, but I didn’t want to say anything if she just had been gaining weight. All I know is I can’t wait to be an aunt! I am going to SPOIL SPOIL SPOIL, as my Auny Kathy has done for me!

The baby is due Jan 9th, 2011, which of course, is right when Shannon and I are planning to go visit Bryan, my brother, and his gf Megan in L.A. We are going to get the tour of the Oscars site  and a movie set! Maria says to just go anyway, and hopefully she can just hold the baby in until we get back on the 10th. I’m thinkin that will work, right?

The agenda for this weekend: Road trip with Bryan to Minnesota for his friend’s wedding, hopefully I will see  Sami and some of the girls while I am there!

BTW I only got to see ONE firework last weekend. ONE. and it was while I was driving. What a disappointment!

xoxo

Price is Right: A New Car!

23 Jun

Ever since I was little I’ve always dreamed of being on the Price is Right. I wanted to cheer with my arms up in the air as I ran down the aisle to take my spot in bidding row. I know I would have guessed the perfect bid on my first try, giving me an extra $500 cash. I would meet Bob Barker, and give him a little peck on the cheek. He would tell me, “Theresa, wait to you see this!” and the doors would open and a perfect, red convertible would be sitting in front of my eyes, shiny and new. I would win the Mountain Climber game (easily) and the red convertible would be all mine…

Well I always thought this was the way my first car was going to happen. Although my car is new (to me, at least) and all mine (sorry Shannon no driving), some dreams just don’t turn out the same. My car, a 4-door Toyota Corolla, is all I need to get me from A to B. It’s not red, but dark gray, and the dream of my hair blowing against the wind in my red convertible is gone for now, especially since my car doesn’t even have a sun-roof. I am thankful, however, for the fact that I didn’t have to give my car salesman a peck on the cheek…otherwise I’d still be car-less. ;)

PS: Today is my half-golden birthday! woo!

Another Day, Another Dolla!

21 Jun

Today is just another ordinary Monday, and with the past week it’s like every other rainy day! The morning hour here at Marsh has gone relatively fast..I’ve been editing and re-writing a few business proposals, organizing my e-mails, and I finally finished the last of my  graduation thank-you notes on my morning break! The afternoons usually don’t go as fast, especially when I have fun things to look forward to in the evenings! Today is my mom’s 55th birthday and the fam and bf Bryan are going to dinner at Spalsh, which is such an amazing seafood place. I haven’t been there since my high school tennis banquent sophmore year….haha memories.

I also officially signed and purchased a new 2010 Toyota Corolla on Saturday! woo finally my own car that I won’t have to share with my little sister, Shannon!

Just another good ol’ Friday

18 Jun

Well, it didn’t exactly start that way…I laid in bed for an extra half-hour this morning before work and ended up not having time to shower– so my hair feels pretty greesy and gross. Good thing I went to the VS semi-annual sale a couple nights ago so I am stocked up on perfume. I’m sure my co-workers are thankful. haha. Anyway it’s date night tonight! My boyfriend Bryan and I are going to Gino’s for a little dinner and then maybe a movie. If you haven’t heard of Gino’s before it’s this little Italian restaurant on the East side (scary) of Des Moines and it sure is tasty! I gotta love my italian roots!

I also can’t wait for Molly and Joe to come into town tomorrow and I can give them a little taste of good ol’ Iowa. It better be sunny tomorrow I need to lay out all day because this inside job is killing my tan!
